TEACHING POINTS:
In reviewing this move by the offensive player (#2 white jersey), referee the footwork as the
play finishes at the rim. The offensive player has faced up his opponent at the elbow and
attempts to beat his primary defender to the rim. The lead has incorrectly rotated late during the
immediate drive, however, the center official stays connected to this play and avoids the
common positioning error of running out to the new trail position. The offensive player utilizes a
jump-stop as he crosses the paint. From our classroom discussions, we know that following a
jump-stop the offensive player must pass or shoot. In this example, the offensive player
immediately picks up his right foot, quickly returning it to the floor following the jump-stop.
A traveling violation is correct on this play.
